novelist and short‐story writer, born in Hampshire and educated at schools in England and Kenya, the Académie Julian, Paris, and Salisbury School of Art. Her volumes of short stories include People for Lunch (1987) and Spoilt (1992). In her novels The Arizona Game (1996) and Green Man Running (2002), she explores emotional terrain with acuity and an ironic wit which illuminates the dark corners of relationships. Her faithfulness to language and shades of meaning is always evident.
