Short-barrelled firearms to which access is restricted in most Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) nations because of their lethal potential in the hands of the inexperienced, the irresponsible, and criminals. The United States is an exception. The US Constitution is interpreted as conferring on all the right to bear arms. In some states, legislation permits people to carry concealed handguns, and in Florida they may be used preemptively to respond to a perceived threat. The US death rate due to handguns (much higher than in any comparable nation) is demonstrably related to easy access.
