Movement; pl. harakat Political parties, liberation movements, and other social phenomena are often called harakah, such as Harakat al-Tahrir al-Islami (Islamic Liberation Movement), Sudan; Harakati Inqilab (Revolutionary Movement), Afghanistan; and Harakat al-Tawhid (Unity Party), Palestine. Al-harakat al-niswiyah means “the women's movement.”
