US dancer. She studied at the Novato School of Ballet in California then at the National Ballet of Canada School, the San Francisco Ballet School, the School of American Ballet, and American Ballet Theatre School. In 1974 she joined ABT, becoming soloist in 1978 and principal (1982–6). With her strong, crisp technique and stylistic versatility she danced both classical and modern repertories, creating leading roles in McFall's Interludes (1983) and Baryshnikov's Cinderella (1984). In 1986 she moved to the Royal Ballet as a principal guest artist where she extended her range, performing in the classics and several Ashton ballets. She also created a role in Bintley's Still Life at the Penguin Café (1987). In 1988 she returned to ABT (while continuing to guest with the Royal until 1990) where she created a role in Tharp's Quartet (1988). She has also guested with Baryshnikov and Company (various seasons 1980–6), with Nureyev and Friends, Northern Ballet Theatre (1982), and Sadler's Wells Royal Ballet (various seasons 1987–90). She gave her last performance at a gala performance of Die Fledermaus with San Francisco Opera. Since retiring she has taught for ABT, the Royal Ballet, and Norwegian National Ballet, and assisted Makarova in staging her production of Bayadère.
