Mock-epic in three cantos of heroic couplets, composed in 1793 by Joel Barlow, published in 1796. While in France, the poet was served a steaming dish of boiled Indian meal (hasty pudding). It reminded him of Connecticut and caused him to write his merry epic on this native dish, ranking “simplicity of diet among the virtues.”
