Quick Reference

Human double minute 2. The human homologue (MDM2) of a negative regulator for the tumour suppressor p53 found originally in mouse. The nuclear phosphoprotein coded by the MDM2 gene is an ubiquitin E3 ligase that ubiquitinylates p53, leading to its destruction. Overexpression of hdm2 leads to increased susceptibility to tumours.
