A component part of orthodontic headgear which uses the back of the head as a resistance force to produce distal and intrusive forces to the maxillary molars. It provides attachment for the intra-oral components of the orthodontic appliance. It is often used for patients with an increased vertical dimension. A plaster headcap is made of plaster of Paris and gauze and serves as a point of anchorage for fixation and traction appliances used for jaw and facial bone fractures.
