Quick Reference

In most secondary schools this is a pastoral role which also involves leading a team of year tutors and monitoring the progress of pupils within that year group. The head of year normally also has responsibility for liaising with parents and carers, and with other agencies, over issues relating to the welfare of pupils under their care. The post carries responsibility points which are reflected in the calculation of the post‐holder's salary. See also head of house.
