(HSC)

A tripartite agency including representatives from business and labour that has overall responsibility for health and safety in the UK. The Health and Safety Executive is its operational arm. The functions of the HSC are to secure the health, safety, and welfare of people at work, to protect the general public from health risks that emanate from work activities, to review legislation and recommend reform, and to conduct research, promote training, and provide information and advice. The HSC is formally accountable to government ministers.
