A structure that restricts the flow of blood through the heart to one direction only. The heart valves are the tricuspid valve between the right atrium and the right ventricle, the bicuspid (mitral) valve between the left atrium and left ventricle, and the semi-lunar valves in the pulmonary artery and dorsal aorta.
