Australian dancer. He studied with Kira Boulsoff and Shelley Rae in Perth and at the Australian Ballet School, joining the company in 1983. Though not a conventionally classical dancer he was a charismatic stage presence, and was promoted principal in 1987. He was especially distinguished in the modern repertory, creating roles in Tetley's Orpheus (1987), and Kudelka's The Book of Alleged Dances (1999), among others but he also danced most major classical roles, performing Albrecht with the Kirov Ballet in 1989. He danced for a season with American Ballet Theatre in 1992 and also guested with several other companies including the Royal Danish Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet. After retiring in 2007 he worked as a coach, also performing character roles. He received the Order of Australia in 1991.
