American econometrician. Heckman studied mathematics at Colorado College (BA, 1965) followed by economics at Princeton U (MA, 1968; PhD, 1971). He joined the faculty of U Chicago in 1973. He was elected to the AAAS in 1985 and the NAS in 1992. Together with McFadden, he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2000.
