A line of human embryonic kidney cells transformed by adenovirus type 5 DNA. They stain strongly and specifically with antibodies to several neurofilament proteins and may be derived from a neuronal cell. Although probably not a useful model for kidney, they are easily transfected and are used extensively in biotechnological applications.
