n. surgical removal of about half the colon (large intestine), usually the right section (right hemicolectomy) with subsequent joining of the ileum to the transverse colon. This is performed for disease of the terminal part of the ileum (such as Crohn’s disease) or of the caecum or ascending colon (such as cancer or Crohn’s disease).
