A cell line of epithelioid morphology originally established from a laryngeal carcinoma but probably contaminated by and now derived from HeLa cells. Extensively used in viral studies and susceptible to arboviruses and measles virus. They are also routinely used in tests for antinuclear antibodies (ANA).
