Mexican dancer, choreographer, teacher, and ballet director. She studied with Sybine (from Pavlova's company), with Argentinita and with Waldeen and founded her own folk dance troupe in 1952. This developed into the state-subsidized Ballet Folklórico de México, resident at the Bellas Artes theatre, with its own school and two companies, one resident, one touring. She remained director until 1998 when she was succeeded by her daughter and grandson, Norma and Salvador Lopez.
