Quick Reference

HES (hairy and enhancer-of-split) and HEY (Hes-related repressor Herp, Hesr, Hrt, CHF, gridlock) genes are the mammalian counterparts of Drosophila genes and are the primary targets of the Delta-*notch signalling pathway. They are transcriptional repressors with basic helix–loop–helix (bHLH) and Orange domains, and are implicated in preventing tissue-specific determination of stem cells.
