Quick Reference

Denoting a device or method of radio reception in which beats are produced by superimposing a locally generated radio wave on an incoming wave. In the superheterodyne receiver the intermediate frequency is amplified and demodulated. In the heterodyne wavemeter, a variable-frequency local oscillator is adjusted to give a predetermined beat frequency with the incoming wave, enabling the frequency of the incoming wave to be determined.
