Quick Reference

The same or similar (cross- reacting) antigens shared by several species (e.g., Forssman antigen, q.v.). Antibodies produced against one of these antigens will also react with the other antigens of the system even though these are derived from a different species; such antibodies are also called heterophile antibodies. See heterophile antigen.
