founder of the Hibbert Trust. He employed a Unitarian minister for the benefit of the slaves on his estate in Jamaica. In 1847 he founded the Hibbert Trust ‘for the spread of Christianity in its most simple and intelligible form’ and the ‘unfettered exercise of the right of private judgement in matters of religion’; its aims are anti-Trinitarian.
