Quick Reference

A variant of the Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) image format which stores a graphic in a number of increasingly high resolution versions. As the image is transferred to an application or a browser the lowest resolution image is displayed first and displayed quickly; after this, increasingly high resolution versions of the graphic are displayed. In this way a low-resolution version of the graphic is displayed quickly with the final high resolution image being eventually displayed. The intent of this format is the same as an interlaced GIF graphic although the method used is different.
