Dimensions of space or time that exist in addition to the three space dimensions and one time dimension. Higher dimensions can be very small, as in Kaluza–Klein theory, or large, as in the brane world. There is no observational evidence for the existence of higher dimensions but they do appear to be a necessary part of certain fundamental theories.
