Overview

high-mannose oligosaccharides

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

Oligosaccharides such as (Glc)3(Man)9(GlcNAc)2 that are transferred from a lipid carrier to asparagine residues of nascent polypeptides destined for secretion or membrane insertion and that are subsequently trimmed by glucosidases that remove the glucose residues and mannosidases that remove all but three mannose residues. After trimming, terminal sugars such as N-acetylglucosamine, galactose, sialic acid, and fucose may be added to generate complex glycans. The trimming reactions are inhibited by compounds such as deoxynojirimycin.
