A crime which involves the use of information or communications technology. Use of the term varies widely between investigative and prosecution agencies, however the following are generally held to fall within the definition of the term: computer intrusions (e.g. malicious hacking); unauthorized modification of data, including destruction of data; denial‐of‐service (DoS) attacks; the creation and distribution of malicious software (e.g. viruses, worms, trojans).
