John Hildrop died on 18 January 1756. He was educated at St John's College, Oxford, graduating BA in 1702 and MA in 1705 (BD and DD, 1743). He accepted the mastership of the Royal Free Grammar School at Marlborough in 1703 and served also as rector of Maulden, Bedfordshire until he resigned both positions in 1733/4 to accept the rectorship of Wath-juxta-Ripon, Yorkshire.
