Mary Hinkson

US dancer and teacher. She studied with Graham, Horst, Schwezoff, and others, joining Graham's company in 1952. Here she became a leading soloist creating roles in, among others, Seraphic Dialogue (1955), Acrobats of God (1960), and Circe (1963). She also guested with various companies, including Butler's and McKayle's (she created the female role in Rainbow 'Round my Shoulder, 1959). In 1951 she began teaching at Graham's school, subsequently teaching freelance and at the Juilliard School. In 1971 she became member of staff of the Cologne Summer Academy. She was also director of dance at Britain's National Choreographic Summer School and worked for the John Butler Foundation, staging Butler's ballets.
