4‐(2‐amino‐3‐hydroxypropyl)imidazole; 2‐amino‐3‐(1H‐imidazol‐4‐yl)propanol; (C3H3N2)CH2−CH(NH2)−CH2OH; the α‐amino‐alcohol analogue of histidine. It is an intermediate, together with its phosphate ester, in the biosynthesis of histidine, and a powerful reversible inhibitor of protein synthesis.
