(?–1809), a Drury Lane prompter who moved to Smock Alley about 1781 and wrote An Historical View of the Irish Stage (2 vols., 1788, 1794). The first full account of the subject, it is rich in anecdotes about dramatists, managers, and actors between 1637 to 1787. He wrote a number of comedies such as The Coquette (1777).
