Afghani Shii Islamist political party created in 1990 by Shaykh Ali Mazari. Initially supported a radical and ideological position but shifted to a policy emphasizing ethnicity during the Afghan civil war. Represents the Shii Hazara ethnic group. Allied itself with Persian-speaking Sunnis following Ahmad Shah Masud. Desires the implementation of Islamic law but is opposed to the idea of an Islamic revolution.
