(1860–1926), English feminist, pacifist, and humanitarian. Emily Hobhouse was born in Saint Ive, a village in Cornwall, England, where her father was an archdeacon of the Church of England. After her mother died when she was twenty, Hobhouse cared for her ill father for the next fourteen years, until he died in 1895.
