American mathematical statistician. Hodges entered UCB aged sixteen and graduated in 1942. After the Second World War, during which he served with Lehmann in the operations analysis group in Guam, he obtained his doctorate at UCB (under the supervision of Neyman) and promptly joined the faculty, retiring in 1991. He was Editor of the Annals of Mathematical Statistics during 1961–4.
