(1821–65), born Hertfordshire, England, was in Australia 1839–45 when he engaged in squatting and pastoral activities in southern Queensland and was briefly involved with Ludwig Leichhardt's 1844–45 expedition to Port Essington. On his return to England he published Reminiscences of Australia with Hints on the Squatter's Life (1846) and in 1849 a book of verse, The Wanderer, and a travel book, El Ydaiour, in both of which there are references to Australia.
