Quick Reference

Sometimes referred to as ‘private tuition’, it is the provision of additional support for learning, outside school hours, usually engaged and paid for by the parents or carers in the case of young learners, or by the learners themselves if adults. Home tuition may be sought in subjects in which the learner is having difficulties at school or college, and is often designed to supplement and reinforce the teaching they are receiving elsewhere. It is particularly sought by parents to prepare their children for public examinations, such as the General Certificate of Secondary Education in core subjects such as English and mathematics.
