Quick Reference

The location of a caries study undertaken on children in New South Wales, Australia, in 1953. The study involved 80 children brought up from birth to 12 years on a lacto-vegetarian diet virtually free of sugar and flour products. It concluded that children up to 12 years of age under close supervision were not protected from developing caries in subsequent years. This study, which was carried out before the Helsinki Declaration, would now be considered unethical dental research.
