horizontal sextant angle

Quick Reference

The angle in the horizontal plane between two landmarks or sea-marks. By measuring such an angle, the navigator is able to plot a position circle on his chart. Somewhere on this circle is his ship's position. By intersecting it with a second one obtained in the same way, or by intersecting it with a straight position line, he then knows that the point of intersection is his ship's exact position.
