1 The points of the jaws of a boom or gaff in a gaff-rigged sailing vessel where they meet the mast.

2 The name of the outer ends of a mast's crosstrees.

3 Two projecting bars sometimes bolted to the after part of a rudder. From these chains could be led as an alternative method of working the rudder should the rudder head be damaged or broken off. See also steering gear.
