biblical scholar. From 1919 he was Dean of Chapel of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. In his contribution to Essays Catholic and Critical (1926) he argued that the so-called ‘historical Jesus’ of Liberal Protestantism was unhistorical. Besides writing on the NT, he translated K. Barth's Commentary on Romans (1933).
