hospital visit

Show Summary Details

Quick Reference

An administrative and financial term for a billable encounter between a physician and a patient that takes place in a hospital, rather than in a physician's office. It is not usual practice for a physician to charge for each encounter when a patient is receiving ongoing care, but if a patient is seen by another physician in consultation during a hospital stay, that physician may count this as a hospital visit and bill accordingly.

Subjects: Public Health and Epidemiology.
