Is the basic rate of pay per hour. Hourly rates are used largely, though not exclusively, as the means of expressing the rate of pay for manual occupations. Hourly rates contrast with annual salaries, in which the rate of pay is based on the number of weeks worked per year and which are used for most non-manual occupations. A feature of the movement towards single status in industry has been the abandoning of hourly rates and the use of salaries for all categories of employee.
