(835–908).

An influential Ch'an monk of the T'ang dynasty period, whose fellow disciple under Hsüeh-feng I-ts'un (822–908), Yün-men Wen-yen (864–949), established the Yün-men House of Ch'an, and whose second-generation disciple, Fa-yen Wen-i (885–958) founded the Fa-yen House (See Five Houses). A record of his Dharma-talks in three fascicles was published in 1080, and a re-edited version was published again in 1626.
