Quick Reference

(fl. 14th cent.), apparently a northern alliterative poet. Andrew of Wyntoun, c.1400, claims that ‘He made the gret Gest of Arthure |And the Anteris of Gawane, | The Epistill als of Suete Susane.’ These poems have been tentatively identified as respectively the alliterative Morte Arthure, The Awntyrs of Arthure, and The Pistyll of Susan. He is perhaps to be identified with the Scot Sir Hew of Eglinton.
