Quick Reference

A receptor protein that is activated on binding with growth hormone (GH) to stimulate the growth and metabolism of muscle, bone, and cartilage cells. The extracellular domains of two receptor proteins bind one molecule of GH. The hGHR protein is encoded by a gene in region 12–13.1 on the short arm of chromosome 5. Mutations in these genes cause Laron dwarfism, a hereditary form of ateliosis inherited as an autosomal recessive.
