Shii institution founded in Tehran, Iran, in 1965 for private religious studies and education. Ali Shariati lectured there in the late 1960s and early 1970s, settting the stage for the later Iranian revolution. Closed by the shah in 1972 due to its opposition to his regime. Reopened in 1979 after the Islamic revolution with a more conservative and compliant tone.
