Smooth, shiny cartilage, which covers the articular surfaces of bones. Hyaline cartilage contains whitish-blue elastic material with chondrocytes forming distinct cell nests and a fine network of collagen fibres. Its smoothness reduces friction between opposing bones in a joint.
