A weak but strongly oxidizing acid (HClO) produced by the reaction of chlorine and water and used as a bleaching agent, disinfectant, and chlorinating agent. It has been shown to be effective in controlling microbial contamination, reducing biofilm, and maintaining endotoxins at an accepted level in dental unit waterlines. Trade name: Sterilox.
