Quick Reference

Excessive or prolonged pronation of the foot during the support phase of running. Hyperpronation is indicated by excessive wear on the medial side of the heel of the shoes. Hyperpronation can increase the mechanical stress on the bones and tissues within the foot, and on the foot's extrinsic muscles. It often results in a compensatory increase in the internal rotation of the entire leg, which exaggerates the twisting forces within the Achilles tendon, and places abnormally high stress on the joint between the patella and the femur.
