Quick Reference

The creation of discrete bodies of ground ice in periglacial conditions. Segregation develops well in silts (which seem to have the optimal pore size), depends on a moderate freezing rate, and often occurs under stones, which have high thermal conductivity. See Hall (2002) S. Afr. J. Sci. 98 and Murton et al. (2006) Science 314.
