Quick Reference

A stretching exercise that improves the flexibility of the iliopsoas (a composite of two muscles that cross the hips and insert onto the thigh bone) and relieves some lower back problems (figure 33).

▪ Stand upright; extend your left leg backward so that the knee touches the floor; and bend your right leg so that the knee is above the ankle. Press your pelvis forwards and downwards, but do not bend your right knee more than 90 degrees. Hold for a few seconds then return to the starting position and repeat with the other leg.
