Sufi scholar, Deobandi alim, and founder of Tablighi Jamaat in India in 1927. Believed that only a grassroots Islamic religious movement could counter the efforts of the Hindu proselytization movements, expunge Hindu influences from Islam, and properly educate Muslims about their own beliefs and rituals. Promoted organization, formal travel, and education as means for achieving the objectives of tabligh.
