Quick Reference

Intracellular proteins that bind immunosuppressive drugs such as ciclosporin, tacrolimus, and rapamycin. Both cyclophilin and the receptor for tacrolimus (FK binding proteins; FKBPs; 100–1219 aa) are peptidyl prolyl cis-trans isomerases (rotamases) although their enzymic activity seems irrelevant to the binding activity. Immunophilins are thought to interact with calcineurin.
